Inspired by the Chudas’ love for Buddhism and a feeling of a connection between Zen Philosophy and nature, Suzanne Furst chose to design the interiors of the Meditation Suite. “I felt this link between the transcendant state of everlasting life and sustainable design,” says the designer, a recent past president of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). The products she used were both ecological and earthy in feeling and color, and include sustainable and recycled woods, natural fiber fabrics, and rugs. Even the draperies contain hemp cording woven into the fabric.
The suite includes cabinetry of natural stone and glass, floors of cork, and walls finished in a natural clay plaster. The window glass in the bathroom contains rice paper and bits of rice plant shafts; the terrace is filled with recycled wood furnishings, antique rugs, and natural fibers and plants.
